What is "Host"

.To begin, let’s have a brief definition of “server”. A server is an always-turned-on and online computer which has all the compartments such as RAM and CPU

Host can be either a part of a server or a whole server.

A host in big companies and social networks like Facebook, Instagram or Telegram has several servers.

When you want to use a website for your business , you need an always-online server in order to send and receive data. This server is called “host”.

Servers use either Windows or Linux, therefore there exists Windows Host and Linux Host.

Hosts are of different types and each will be defined briefly:

Shared Web Hosting

In shared hosting, the server’s space and services are cleaved between several websites. Those websites which doesn’t have high number of viewers can meet their needs with a shared host. However, a shared host has limitations in its hardware which will cause problems if the number of viewers increases. In this case, the first solution is that other websites on this host reduce their usage i.e. having less viewers and putting less amount of content. Or else, you can use reseller web hosting.

Reseller Web Hosting

It allows the sellers to give host services without any big investment. They put a part of their own server on rent.

Dedicated Hosting

The whole server is dedicated to a website. Dedicated host has more sources than shared host. If your website has a lot of viewers, you need to use a dedicated host. It allows you to control the whole server, therefore, you have to pay for the whole server.
Dedicated host is more expensive than shared host. Also, you need to use experts for managing the server.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting

By the use of an application name VMWARE, a server is divided into several virtual servers which each of these servers act as a dedicated host. Each part of this virtual host has its own physical attributes and can be managed separately.
VPS has more sources than shared host and it’s less expensive than dedicated host.

Co-location Hosting

A dedicated host is located inside a data center. The company or website is responsible for its security and management, and only the physical space security, electricity, internet and coolers of the data center is being used by this host.
This host is more secure than other hosts and the company or website is responsible for security and hardware/software maintenance, therefore, it is the most expensive type of host.

Cloud Hosting

In cloud hosting, several servers work together as a network. A website can use all the facilities, whether hardware or software, of all servers. If your website needs more space or it faces a problem, it can use other servers to fix it up because cloud hosting has no limits for the website.
Cloud hosting is reliable, accessible, secure and scalable.

Internal Host and External Host

For website owners always wonder whether they have to use a host which is located inside their country or outside.
When a host is located inside your country, because of the short physical distance between the website and the server, loading speed is higher. Accessing the contents which is one of the important factors in SEO would be faster.
Also if your website contains important and confidential data, like those in governmental organizations, you’d better use an internal host for it is more secured.
If your users are in another country, it is recommended to use an external host which is located in that country. Again for higher loading speed. However, be aware of Error 404, which has negative compacts on your website’s SEO.
